The CZ 527 American features a classic American pattern stock, a sporter-weight hammer forged barrel, a single set trigger and a recessed target crown. Made to be used with optics, rifle ships with 1″ steel scope rings.
Dan – August 23, 2015:
What a fun gun to shoot! Accuracy is great with whatever ammo you choose. The trigger is fully adjustable, crisp and smooth. Be careful with the scope mounts provided as rear bolt clearance is an issue if your scope has a large diameter eyepiece. The 8 mounting screws are a funky thread and do not seem to be very hard. If you over tighten them they will break.

Love my 527 American in 17 Hornet. Shoots 20gr Vmax @ 3650 fps into bughole groups. Fit and finish is top notch!
Jordan – June 12, 2015:
This is one the absolute best firearms on the market! I’ve got groups as small as .25 inches to no larger than 1.5. Weight is on par with most rimfire rifles. The only complaint I have is the backwards safety, but once you get used to it, it’s really no different than cocking the hammer on a lever gun. I want another in 221 fireball. Suggestions: glass bed the recoil lug area, these guns are “pillar bedded”, but a good glass job will help you wring the best accuracy out of the rifle. My particular rifle prefers Fiocchi 40 grain vmax, but will shoot under MOA with most quality 40 to 55 grain loads. If you’re looking for a fast handling deer and varmint rifle, this is the ticket!
Benny Barnes – June 1, 2015:
My 527 17 Hornet is 4th CZ rifle, and I have never been disapointed with the quality or accuracy. I love the Mauser style action and am glad that CZ keeps it alive. The only way I could ever see CZ’s rifles being better was if they made Stainless. But that’s a personal preference. Thank CZ for a great rifle.
Larry D – May 28, 2015:
I’ve owned my CZ now for 10-12 years with the 40gr V-max it is deadly out to 250 yards. The nice thing about the Hornet is you stay on the target easier after the shot. There are new calibers that come along but the hornet is tough to beat. My favorite prairie dog gun.
Jim Philippi – May 15, 2015:
Really?! The first testament? I’ve had this rifle for about 4 years and it’s by far my favorite squirrel rifle. Light loads, sub MOA, great out to 150 yards. I’ve shot it 500 times in one day without problems. Currently has over 6000 rounds through it and still shooting straight as ever. I did spend some time perfecting the load but once done there was no looking back. FWIW, I use a 34 grain bullet. Larger bullets don’t stabilize.
Darwin – February 12, 2015:
If I had to limit myself to one small game, rodent/Varmint gun this would be it. Loves 20-gr HP’s & Hornady 25-gr 1710’s, if I tried reloading 20-gr V-max I expect they would be accurate also. Factory loads have shot sub MOA by a small margin in this one. For my purposes if I had to limit myself to 1 bullet – Hands down 1710’s by Hornady would be my clear choice.
Austin – February 7, 2015:
The “most fun” rifle I own out of many. This rapidly became my favorite walking, varmint, back seat, general mucking about rifle and has been for around 5 years. Very well made and much more accurate than I am. There have been a few, very lonely AR’s in the safe sice I acquired this. It’s exceptionally light weight and comfortable to carry. Highly recommended.
Denni Miller – February 6, 2015:
I just bought a 527 223rem. Out of the box it prints .60 groups at 100 yds. These are 65 grain sierra game king loads I use for hog hunting. Shot well in my savage. The CZ really likes them with no tweaking. With a good shooter and target loads I have no doubt the gun will print under half m.o.a. at a hundred yds. Great gun for the price.
Ross H – February 5, 2015:
I owned 3 hornets prior to the cz and this is the only one that will shoot. I have owned it for several years and it always shoots sub moa with 30-45gr slugs, lil gun and sml pistol primers, I have shot thousands of rnds thru this rifle with VERY minimal cleaning and still shoots tiny groups, love the set trigger, praire dogs hate it
john fila – January 28, 2015:
My 527 American is everything I heard and more. The 17 Hornet out shoots all of my other varmit rifles, its action is smooth and handles beautiful. I wouldn’t part with it; I love it
lloyd – January 24, 2015:
I got my 17 hornet last summer wow I thought my cz 204 groped good but this 17 hornet groped 10 times better im shooting 20 gr vmax great gopher gun
Brandon & Colton Howard – January 23, 2015:
This rifle is awesome! I have not owned many center-fire rifles because I am just an everyday guy,not rich! I chose to put my hard earned money in CZ’s hands. The 527 is a great groundhog rifle. The set trigger was awesome! In .204 I was able to make shots that made this country boy’s jaw drop. I live in Indiana where really long distance shooting is rare on groundhogs. I killed many out to 300yds! That’s not any big deal right? Wrong. I made clean head shots past 300yds! Accuracy of this rifle was truly amazing. The best shot I had ever made, was a 325 yard shot on a groundhog with only half of his head peaking out of his den. I steadied the cross hairs, set the trigger and fired. The rest, as they say, is history.
JJ Smiley – December 3, 2014:
I love this gun. I loaded up some 52 grain seirra blitz match kings and I can put ten shots inside a dime at 100 yards all day long. The trigger is really good and the accuracy is awesome. I have several cz firearms and the quality and the accuracy are hard to beat.
Randy Rich – October 31, 2014:
I have had mine for a few years now and it is one of my favorites for accuracy. I mounted a high-quality scope for shooting out to 300 yards and this rifle was made for the task. Great look, great shooting and well worth the investment.
Colin W. – October 22, 2014:
I’ve had one of these in .22 Hornet for a few years now. With very basic load development it will consistently produce 3/4″ 100yrd 5-round groups. The action was a little rough at first, but after about a hundred rounds it became very smooth. The set trigger is amazing. breaks like glass.
Baron Shively – October 18, 2014:
I have shot my .222 American for almost exactly 10 years. It is capable of shooting a wide variety of ammo and reloads within 1 MOA. In fact, a quick review of my shooting log shows probably 7 or 8 loads that have been 3/8″ to 5/8″. I think that is excellent accuracy for a light rifle.
George Wessling – September 24, 2014:
The 22 hornet is a much over look varmint round. i have had my CZ 527 for 2 years last year put a leupold VX2 4×12 cds dial on it. And use it on every thing from prairie dog to coyotes . This year got 2 bob cats at 283yrds and 305yrds. small hole in dead critter on ground, can’t much better then that.
Steve Ellingboe – September 23, 2014:
If you love accuracy, this rifle fills the bill. I have shot 3 shot 1/10″ groups with FACTORY Winchester ammo. This rifle has also turned in a .032″ group with handloads. My rifle has a T10 Weaver scope with dot. It just doesn’t get any better than this!
Michael Christman – July 13, 2014:
Just got mine yesterday, put a scope on it and bore sighted it,now just tinkering,it is a beautiful rifle, awesome shooter! will buy another for sure!
JD Hasty – June 2, 2014:
This is the real deal! I have 2 22-250s, 2 243s, a 17 Rem, a 223, a 204, a 222 and a 22 Win Mag all of which I shoot varmints with. I bought the cz hornet to replace my Savage Anschutz 22 Win Mag for shooting rock chucks around heavily settled “ranchettes,” and to use as a “walking around” gun for prairie dogs. I figured I would probably almost always shoot it off a Harris Bi-pod, but have found myself using it for quite a bit of setup shooting at varmints off a bench with rest and bags and it is fabulously effective to 250 yards or so. The gun shoots sub half inch five shot groups at a hundred yards with the Hornaday 40 gr Vmax bullet. When I first bought it four years ago I took it home and put a Leupold 2-7×32 compact on it. That lasted for about three days… then replaced the 2-7 with a 3-9×40 when I found I was shooting it out to greater distances… and then a couple weeks later replaced that 3-9 with a 3-12×44… and later that first year replaced the 3-12 with a 3-15×44… the following year I took off the 3-15 and the little hornet has had 4-20×50 Weaver Super Slam w/fine cross hairs and dot on it. Perfection! I have been using the gun to snipe at prairie dogs and rock chucks from 200 yards away and the gun is fully capable of hitting them in the head at 200 yards when all I have to shoot at is their head. Just last weekend a group of tyros moved in on the rock chuck colony I was shooting on Saturday, so I just moved up the coulee and shot my hornet from fifty feet from a feedlot full of market steers and they didn’t even look up from the feed bunks when I shot. Try that with anything else and you would have a stampede on your hands. I shot 28 chucks out to about 185 yards and got every one I took a poke at, I had to shoot twice at a couple because I accidentally touched off the set trigger before I was ready to shoot.
Bo – November 7, 0204:
This is best “walk around varmint rifle” I’ve ever used. My CZ came with beautiful wood and and extremely well made. The .22 hornet hand loaded with max load lil’gun powder realy wakes up this great old cartridge. Mine is sub moa with 40 gr v-max, 45 gr hornady hornet, or hornady 50 gr spx. The Hornady 45 gr Hornet being the best all around performer on game. I had to modify the magazine to accept longer COL, really wish it would come from the factory with this mod. Just deadly on prairie dogs out to 250-300 yards. It’s nice and quite too. I really hope CZ keeps making the 527 series. I would love one in 6.5 Grendell or .300 blackout.
