Bought it new and broke it in properly. I was astounded at how well it handled recoil (due to proper design and weight) and how accurate it is! I tinkered with handloads until I could get a 300g soft and a 300g solid at nearly the same point of impact out to 100 yards. It was easier than I would have thought. The soft points shot great out to 200 yards which was the maximum distance at the range. Could not get it to properly feed with a full magazine. Seemed like the spring was too light. I made it a point of loading no more than three in the belly and one in the chamber – which is pretty much what you get with any rifle. My only other knock would be the bluing. My bluing is really faded in all the high wear areas. When I got to Zimbabwe my PH carried the same gun in .458 Win. All of his metal was worn silver. I’ve thought about sending it out for Cerakote or over to Robar for their outstanding Rogard coating. Guess it will depend where the rifle travels next. Wet conditions would be a real problem without some attention. But I’d buy again! It shoots straight and handles well.

I, however, have forever become enamored by the CZ550 Magnum action and the Rigby name. The proper stocking and weight to match the Rigby round makes it a pleasure. Carried a rifle for the first time in 25 years for deer this year because of this rifle! I love my CZ and will add to it this year with a .22 and perhaps another centerfire magnum.

I’ve already taken a whitetail with it. The feel of the rifle is UNBELIEVEABLE!!! I’ve held some old 602 BRNOs and they were fantastic the thicker stock manages the recoil so well. As an ex collector of Mauser 98 style rifles this piece of art quickly became like another limb. Sights perfect. Stock perfect. Trigger perfect. Accuracy perfect…..BUY ONE YOU CANT GO WRONG!!!!

When I first picked up and shouldered it, I had to have it. It fit me perfectly, the sights lining up just right. The only thing I did not like was the way the bolt handle was drilled to relieve weight, then the hole was flared quite a bit creating rather sharp edges around the circumference of the hole. I took it to a gunsmith and had the hole welded up, and the bolt handle rounded off and blued. The metal is not a perfect match , but allows the bolt handle to rotate in the palm of my hand much more smoothly.

It’s a big gun, more comfortable to shoot than my old pre 64 Win mod 70 featherweight in 30-06.
