Product Description

The CZ 550 FS features a classic Bavarian-style Mannlicher stock, steel muzzle cap and a 3-position safety. This safety is unique in the CZ line to the FS and Carbine Composite models. It locks the bolt and is on ‘safe’ when fully to the rear, remains on ‘safe’ with the bolt unlocked for unloading in the mid position and is ready to fire with the bolt unlocked in the forward position.

While the aesthetics of this model remind us of rifles from times gone by, with its short 20.5″ barrel, fast handling stock and iron sights, it is even today perhaps the most appropriate configuration for quick shots required when hunting in dense cover.

I purchased my CZ 550 FS .243 in 2005. I recently read a review in Shooting Times where the author found that the 1:10 twist rate did not stabilize the lighter bullets as well as the heavier ones; however, my 550 shoots the Hornady 58 gr. V-Max Moly Varmint Express bullets straighter and flatter than anything I’ve ever witnessed. I’ve picked off rock chucks at 200 yards up hill with no problem, I drained a badger at 224 yards on a solid run, and I spotted for my hunting buddy who I saw smoke a jack rabbit at 400 yards holding pretty much dead on. Yea, I can’t explain it either. Of course my gun is mounted with a varmint scope; I have not shot it much with open sites. With the cross-over from varmint to large game in the .243 caliber and the amazing accuracy of this rifle, I cannot give it a higher recommendation.

Have always wanted a full stock Mannlicher style rifle and discovered the CZ 550 FS in 308 Win., searching the web. The rifle is just plain sweet. Just finished running 50 rounds of 150 grain and 165 grain Hornady cartridges through the rifle and the results were great. Three shot groups of 1 inch were the average with the 165 grain best, both cartridges shot at 100 yds. The trigger is outstanding, and there is no need to use the set position, unless you are shooting for high accuracy with targets. My brother has a bunch of CZ’s, and has used them hunting around the world, and it was he who put me on to CZ.
It is my opinion that CZ is the best value for the money in the industry.
Fit, finish and appearance are wonderful. I love this rifle.
