Product Description

The CZ 75 SP-01 is the first full size handgun (4.61” bbl) from CZ to feature the improved manufacturing technology and ergonomics of the NATO-approved CZ 75 Compact P-01 model. Featuring an integral 1913 accessory rail on the dust cover, rubber grip panels, and CZ’s corrosion resistant black polycoat finish, the SP-01 is the newest model to join the family of pistols based on the CZ 75 (SA/DA) platform. Borrowing from the improved grip geometry of the compact P-01, the SP-01 utilizes an extended beavertail to protect shooter’s strong hand as well as allowing for a deeper and more secure grip. The new grip geometry, checkering in key areas on the front and back straps, and redistribution of mass provided by the accessory rail noticeably decrease the perceived recoil from previous models and allows for more rapid target acquisition and transition.

The SP-01 was designed as a military and law enforcement duty sidearm. The new model is currently in use by security forces fighting the war on terrorism. Thanks to its exceptional accuracy and superior handling characteristics, the CZ 75 SP-01 has also found supporters in the field of sport and target shooting. Its list of users on the competition circuit include World Champions Adam Tyc and Angus Hobdell (1st and 3rd place respectively in 2005‘s IPSC championship, World Shoot XIV).

This model is retrofitted to be compliant for purchase in states with capacity limits. It is shipped with two 10-round magazines.

Perfect semi-auto in 9mm with the 1911’s Operating Controls and perfect Ergos. Don’t pick one up in a shop or you’re going to buy it, it feels that good.
I’m not a competition shooter, range days and home/personal defense use. Out of the box, cleaned and lubed the CZ 75 SP-01 is a better shooter than I am. I like the trigger, you can shoot it all day, no sharp edges and I find it totally satisfactory for my uses.
Other than the manual of Arms, (and the SP having a lower bore axis) this gun is equivalent to my P226 Extreme which cost much more and is totally equal to my Sig 1911 Nitron Rail, differing calibers aside. The quality is that outstanding.
I keep a Streamlight TLR-1 mounted, secure it in a Pitbull Tactical “Nocturnal” holster, with Critical Defense ammo for the perfect home defense combination.
Someday I’d love to get the Tactical model to compare head to head with the P226 as they have the same manual of arms.
Get one, if you don’t LOVE it… I dunno… I’ll eat a hat or something.

Ladies, don’t let the weight of this model scare you away. This 9mm is so perfectly balanced that there is little or no fatigue holding or shooting the SP-01. First time out, I shot 100 rounds in an indoor range over approx 40 minutes. All were slow single shots to familiarize myself with this handgun. The low recoil and Ergonomics proved to be outstanding. I could have gone thru another 200 rounds easily. I impressed myself with the accuracy at 9 and 12 yards. I am not a highly experienced shooter. Probably have been on the range only 8 times during the last year since I started this sport. I’ve been using a 9mm Shield, but the SP-01 is by far my favorite. Easier to control and more comfortable and accurate than the Shield. My hands are not large, about a size 7 or a medium glove. I have a controlling grasp and have no problem reaching the trigger. The single action trigger pull is smooth and the double action is very manageable. It’s a little difficult to reach the mag release without doing a wrist twist, so I use my left thumb to release. Works for me. Pulling the slide back was a little difficult at first, but much better after those first 100 rounds and a clean and lube. Don’t be intimidated by the breakdown as it’s really not that difficult to manage.

To sum things up, the CZ 75 SP-01 is amazing. It’s very well made, accurate like nobody’s business, fun to shoot, and I would trust my family’s or my own life on it…if that horrible situation were to ever arise. Ladies, again, I can’t emphasize enough on the ease of handling the SP-01. I do highly recommend taking a safety class, either group or individual instruction prior to shooting any firearm on your own. There are many women only classes which are great when your first starting out. Less intimidating and a supportive environment.

One last thing, I have to publicly thank Jeff from the Western Sales Division. He was a godsend in helping me locate this model in an area of my proximity in California. Jeff you are the best and one of the most patient people I have had the pleasure to communicate with. This man deserves an award..the “I Survived Janice” trophy! He exemplifies the CZ USA Customer Service reputation.
